Nouveau Noir Dance

Tempest's area of specialty within the realm of Gothic Bellydance is "Nouveau Noir" – dance pieces that reflect the art and society of the early 1900's, pulling from silent films, vaudeville-Denishawn style, art nouveau, art deco, and the Oriental craze. Students will learn combinations that capture the elegant form, fluid movement, and dramatic stylings of these eras, while being taught in a format that will enable them to absorb them into their own personal choreographies.

Between the Veils

$40 3:15p - 5:15p

Discover the darker side of veil work, from dramatic entrances, intricate and intimate veilplay, to exiting with a flourish that will leave 'em wanting more. Learn to truly dance with your veil and tame it's inner cat. Be sure to bring at least one three yard veil—rectangular or circular. Can be silk, chiffon, or other light, flowing material. All levels welcome.

Outside the Box

$35 9:00a - 11:00a

Express yourself! This workshop will focus on dramatic movement and shapes, allowing us out of the box to explore different ways of moving. We'll start with drills and combos covering uncommon isolations and layers, including legs and feet! The class will move on to cover body positioning, arms and hands, and posture as well as emotional intention and facial expressions. Knock down some barriers and find your extraordinary expression and stage presence. Some bellydance experience needed.

Refunds

There will be no refunds unless the event is cancelled. In the unlikely event of an individual instructor being unable to teach her offered class, November Noir will endeavor to find a suitable replacement, or will transfer your registration to another class if possible. Workshop registrations may be transferred to other participants, but please be sure to contact us and authorize to us to whom the workshop is being transferred ahead of time so there will be no confusion. Thank you.

Check-in / Registration

Check-in will begin half an hour prior to the first scheduled workshop, and from 12-12:30pm before the scheduled afternoon workshops. Door registration for workshops will be offered only in the morning.

Performance

All workshop participants, registered for at least 4 hours are welcome to perform. Space is limited and is strictly on a first come basis. Troupes requesting to perform must all be registered for workshops. Performance slots are limited to troupes with no more than 10 members. Catered box lunches can be purchased and will be ready for you at the Scottish Rite Theater.
